Camera Features

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 features a Super 35 sensor with an effective size of 23.10mm x 12.99mm, delivering 13 stops of dynamic range and dual native ISO of 400 and 3200 for outstanding low-light performance. It uses an active EF lens mount and supports full lens control for iris, focus, and zoom with compatible electronic lenses.

The camera offers multiple shooting resolutions, including 6K (6144 x 3456) up to 50 fps, 5.7K up to 60 fps, 4K DCI and Ultra HD up to 60 fps, and 2.8K and HD up to 120 fps, making it versatile for both cinematic and high-frame-rate shooting. Off-speed frame rates are also supported, enabling slow-motion recording. A 5-inch 1920 x 1080 capacitive touchscreen LCD provides intuitive control, monitoring, and menu navigation.

Metadata support includes automatic lens data capture, camera settings, and motion sensor information, with the ability to embed 3D LUTs in Blackmagic RAW files.

Controls

Physical controls include dedicated buttons for recording, stills, ISO, shutter, white balance, iris, focus, HFR, zoom, menu, and playback, alongside three programmable function buttons. A scroll wheel integrated into the handgrip allows fast adjustments, and the highly accurate timecode clock ensures synchronization with less than one frame drift over 8 hours.

Connections

The camera provides a range of connections including 1 x HDMI output (up to 1080p60), 2 x mini XLR inputs with phantom power support, and 1 x 3.5mm stereo input (also usable for timecode). Audio output is available via a 3.5mm headphone jack, while a USB-C interface supports external drive recording, PTP control, and firmware updates.

Audio

Audio is captured using a built-in stereo microphone and monitored through a mono speaker. Professional audio is supported through the dual mini XLR inputs with phantom power and line-level compatibility, delivering high-quality audio recording directly into the camera.

Recording and Media

The camera supports CFast 2.0 cards, SD UHS-II cards, and USB-C external drives for direct recording. Media can be formatted in ExFAT or HFS+ file systems. Recording formats include Blackmagic RAW in multiple bitrates and qualities (3:1, 5:1, 8:1, 12:1, Q0–Q5) at up to full 6K resolution, as well as Apple ProRes 422 (HQ, 422, LT, Proxy) in various 4K and HD formats.

Storage rates vary by codec and resolution, ranging from 323 MB/s in 6K RAW 3:1 down to 5.6 MB/s in ProRes Proxy HD, ensuring flexibility for both high-end cinema workflows and efficient storage.

Software and Compatibility

The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 runs Blackmagic OS and includes powerful tools such as DaVinci Resolve Studio, Blackmagic RAW Player, Camera Setup Utility, and RAW SDK. It supports control through iPad, Bluetooth, USB PTP, Blackmagic Zoom Demand, and Focus Demand, as well as integration with ATEM switchers for external control of camera settings.

The camera is compatible with macOS (13.0 Ventura, 14.0 Sonoma or later) and Windows 10/11 systems.

Power Requirements

Power is supplied via an external 12V adapter with a locking connector, or through NP-F570 batteries. The camera supports a wide input voltage range of 12V–20V. Battery life is approximately 60 minutes when recording 6K RAW at 24 fps to a CFast card with screen brightness at 50%. Optional accessories such as the Pocket Camera Battery Pro Grip and Pro EVF extend functionality.

Environmental Specifications

The camera is designed to operate in a wide range of environments, with an operating temperature of 0° to 40°C (32°–104°F) and a storage temperature range of -20° to 45°C (-4°–113°F). It supports relative humidity up to 90% non-condensing, ensuring reliable performance in diverse shooting conditions.
