Connections

The Blackmagic Streaming Encoder 4K features one SDI video input, one SDI loop output, and one SDI monitor output, supporting SDI rates of 1.5G, 3G, 6G, and 12G. It also includes one HDMI monitor output. Audio support includes 16 channels of embedded SDI audio for both input and loop out, and two channels of embedded HDMI audio for the monitor output. A USB-C webcam output supports resolutions up to 2160p60. The unit is equipped with an Ethernet port supporting 10/100/1000 BASE-T for live streaming, configuration, and software updates.

Standards

Supported HD video input standards include 720p50, 720p59.94, 720p60, 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 1080i60, 1080p23.98, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p29.97, 1080p30, 1080p50, 1080p59.94, and 1080p60. Ultra HD video inputs include 2160p23.98, 2160p24, 2160p25, 2160p29.97, 2160p30, 2160p50, 2160p59.94, and 2160p60. The encoder is compliant with SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 296M, SMPTE 424M, SMPTE 425M level A and B, SMPTE 2081-1, SMPTE 2081-10, SMPTE 2082-1, SMPTE 2082-10, SMPTE 2084, and SMPTE 2108-1 standards. It supports Rec. 709 and Rec. 2020 color spaces, with automatic detection of SMPTE level A or B on 3G-SDI inputs. SDI and HDMI monitor out standards are supported at 1080p50, 1080p59.94, and 1080p60.

Video Streaming Standards

Streaming Capabilities

The encoder supports direct live streaming over Ethernet using Real Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) in H.264, as well as Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) in both H.264 and H.265. It can embed CEA-608 and CEA-708 closed captions in live RTMP streams and supports source timecode over RTMP and SRT.

Control

A built-in control panel provides six buttons, a spin knob, and a 2.2-inch color LCD display for monitoring video, audio, and status, as well as menu navigation. Device control is available via the front panel, USB-C, or Ethernet. External control supports remote camera control, color correction, tally, and talkback. A REST API over Ethernet enables external control through HTTP with REST client applications.

Displays

The integrated 2.2-inch LCD display allows real-time monitoring of video and audio, status checking, and access to menu settings.

The encoder is compatible with a wide range of services and software, including Facebook, Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, Restream.IO, Vimeo, BoxCast, Castr, AfreecaTV, Bilibili, DouYu, Weibo, Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, QuickTime Player, FaceTime, OBS Studio, VLC, Wirecast Play, and Wowza Streaming Engine.

Power Requirements

The device includes an internal 100-240V AC power supply and a 4-pin XLR 12V DC input for external power supply or battery operation. Power consumption is 25W.
