The Blackmagic MultiView 4 features 4 multi-rate SDI video inputs that support 10-bit SD-SDI, HD-SDI, and 6G‑SDI formats. It offers 4 loop-through SDI outputs along with one HD/Ultra HD SDI video output. The multiview output includes 1 x 10-bit HD-SDI and 10-bit 6G‑SDI, plus a full-size HDMI Type-A connector, which supports monitor EDID for seamless output compatibility. All SDI outputs include reclocking with automatic switching between SD, HD, or 6G‑SDI standards. For updates and configuration, the device includes a USB 2.0 interface and RJ45 Ethernet connection. Notably, it supports automatic detection of SD, HD, and 6G‑SDI sources, allowing simultaneous viewing of mixed video formats.
Video Standards Supported
The unit supports a broad range of video standards. For SD, it handles 525i59.94 NTSC and 625i50 PAL. HD formats include 720p (50, 59.94, 60), 1080i (50, 59.94, 60), 1080p (23.98 to 60), and 1080PsF (23.98 to 30). It also supports 2K DCI formats like 2Kp and 2KPsF (23.98, 24, 25). Ultra HD is supported at 2160p (23.98 to 30), and 4K DCI at 4Kp24. For video output via SDI and HDMI, supported resolutions include 1080i (50, 59.94) for HD and 2160p (25, 29.97) for Ultra HD.
Video & Audio Specifications
SDI video sampling is handled at 4:2:2, with a 10-bit color precision and YUV color space. It automatically switches between SD‑SDI, HD‑SDI, and 6G‑SDI for each input, enabling mixed formats across inputs. Audio is sampled at a standard 48kHz, 24-bit rate, with embedded VU-standard meters displayed per view. The unit supports video payload identification (as per SMPTE 352M) and complies with a range of standards including SMPTE 259M, 292M, 296M, 425M/B, and ITU-R BT.656/601.
Control & Software
The Blackmagic MultiView 4 has no built-in control panel but supports the optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel, which includes a 2.2-inch LCD and menu system. Software control is available through the included MultiView application, compatible with Mac (10.15 Catalina or later) and Windows 10 64-bit. Firmware upgrades are managed through the same software.
Power Requirements
This unit requires an IEC cable for AC power input (100‑240V). It also supports Power over Ethernet (PoE+) via 48V DC, adding flexibility for studio setups. Power fail protection ensures settings are preserved and restored instantly upon reboot. The device has a modest power consumption of 16 watts.
Environmental Specifications
The MultiView 4 is designed to operate in temperatures from 0° to 40°C (32° to 104°F) and can be stored at temperatures ranging from -20° to 45°C (-4° to 113°F). It supports relative humidity from 0% to 90% non-condensing, ensuring durability in various environments.
