Connections
The Blackmagic MultiView 16 offers 16 independent 10-bit SDI video inputs that support SD-SDI, HD-SDI, and 6G‑SDI signals. These inputs are complemented by 16 SDI video outputs, also supporting SD, HD, and 6G-SDI formats. The unit features two 10-bit HD-SDI and two 10-bit 6G‑SDI outputs for multiview video monitoring, along with a single HDMI type A output that supports EDID from connected displays. All SDI outputs include reclocking functionality and support auto switching between standard definition, high definition, or 6G‑SDI video. A reference input supports both Black Burst and Tri-Sync signals, making the unit suitable for SD, HD, and 4K workflows.

Multi Format Compatibility
Blackmagic MultiView 16 is designed for maximum flexibility, featuring automatic detection of SD, HD, or 6G‑SDI sources. It enables simultaneous viewing of mixed formats — SD, HD, and Ultra HD — in any order. The unit also supports firmware updates and configuration through either a USB 2.0 high-speed interface or an RJ45 Ethernet connection. Setup can be done directly from the front panel LCD or remotely via software.

Video Standards
This multi viewer supports a wide range of video standards. For SD video, it supports 525i59.94 NTSC and 625i50 PAL. HD formats include 720p50, 720p59.94, 720p60, as well as interlaced and progressive Full HD formats such as 1080i50/59.94/60 and 1080p23.98 through 1080p60. PsF standards are also supported.
For cinema workflows, the unit supports 2K DCI formats like 2Kp23.98, 2Kp24, and 2Kp25 (including PsF variants). Ultra HD video formats include 2160p23.98 up to 2160p30, and 4Kp24 DCI is also supported.
Output formats via SDI and HDMI include 1080i50/59.94, 1080p25/29.97, and Ultra HD 2160p25/29.97.

Signal Quality and Compliance
SDI compliance is ensured with support for SMPTE 259M, 292M, 296M, 425M-B, ITU‑R BT.656, and BT.601 standards. Video is processed using 10-bit 4:2:2 precision in YUV color space. Audio is sampled at 48kHz and 24-bit, aligned with broadcast standards. Each input automatically switches between SD-SDI, HD-SDI, and 6G‑SDI formats, allowing every channel to run a different standard. Ancillary data support is available via SMPTE 352M for video payload identification.

Monitoring & Control
The MultiView 16 provides visual clarity with VU standard audio meters displayed per view. It features full source routing capabilities for customized monitoring layouts. The built-in control panel includes 16 source routing buttons, a scroll wheel, and a 2.2-inch color display for menu navigation. External control is supported via the Blackmagic Videohub software (Mac/Windows), and it’s compatible with Blackmagic Smart Control and Master Control panels. Developers can integrate custom solutions via the Videohub SDK and Ethernet control protocol. RS-422 external control is also supported via an RJ9 port.

Display and Software
The unit features a built-in 1.5-inch LCD display for quick setup and configuration. MultiView software for Mac and Windows is included free, along with an internal software updater. Supported OS platforms include macOS 10.15 Catalina and later, and Windows 10 (64-bit).

Physical Design
Designed for compact rack installation, the MultiView 16 fits in a 1RU space and is less than 6 inches deep, making it ideal for tight broadcast or mobile setups.

Power Requirements
The device supports 100–240V AC input via standard IEC cable. In the event of power loss, MultiView 16 preserves settings and restores them on reboot. The power consumption is rated at 45W.

Environmental Specs
Blackmagic MultiView 16 operates in temperatures ranging from 0° to 40°C (32° to 104°F), with storage tolerance between -20° and 45°C (-4° to 113°F). It supports 0% to 90% relative humidity (non-condensing).
