Connections

The ATEM Mini Extreme features 9 total video inputs, including 8 HDMI type-A inputs supporting 10-bit HD switchable signals with 2-channel embedded audio. It provides 4 total outputs and 4 auxiliary outputs. For HDMI, the switcher supports 3 video outputs, including 3 program outputs. The unit also includes 2 USB-C connections for webcam output, capable of delivering 720p or 1080p at the program frame rate. Additionally, it supports 1 multi-view output, routable to any of the 3 HDMI outputs, 2 USB-C webcam outputs, or the Thunderbolt connection.

On the audio side, the switcher integrates 2 XLR combo inputs with phantom power and 1 BNC connector supporting 32-channel MADI digital audio, as well as 1 headphone jack (6.35mm) for monitoring.

Synchronization and Conversion

To ensure seamless switching, the ATEM Mini Extreme offers video input re-sync on all 8 HDMI inputs and remote sources, as well as frame rate and format conversion across all HDMI inputs and remote sources.

Networking and Computer Interfaces

For networking and control, the unit provides 1 x 1G Ethernet port for basic streaming, internet connectivity, and control panels, along with 1 x 10G Ethernet connection for recording. Computer interfacing includes 2 USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 ports for external drive recording, webcam out, software control, and updates, as well as 1 Thunderbolt port for fill/key video out, video input, Ethernet to storage, and power delivery.

Standards Support

The ATEM Mini Extreme supports a wide range of HD video input standards including 720p (50, 59.94, 60Hz) and 1080p (23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, 60Hz), along with 1080i formats (50, 59.94, 60Hz). Output standards are supported up to 1080p60, with streaming video standards matching the same frame rates. The switcher processes video in 4:2:2 YUV sampling with 10-bit color precision, using the Rec. 709 color space. Real-time, hardware-based colorspace conversion is included.

The switcher includes 1 mix effects row, 10 direct crosspoints, and tactile NKK crosspoint buttons. Audio Capabilities

The built-in 26-input, 2-channel audio mixer integrates all HDMI, MADI, XLR, and Thunderbolt inputs. Each channel supports on/off and audio-follow-video modes, individual gain control, and advanced Fairlight audio processing including compressor, gate, limiter, and 6-band parametric EQ. Phantom power (+48V) is supported on XLR inputs, and analog input delay can be set up to 8 frames.

Streaming and Recording

The ATEM Mini Extreme supports up to 8 streaming sources using RTMP/SRT protocols. Direct streaming is supported via Ethernet or through a USB-C shared internet connection. Recording can be performed directly to external drives via USB-C or CFExpress slot, with 8 HDMI ISO inputs recorded as H.264 .mp4 files and program out recorded in H.264 with AAC audio. Audio is captured separately for 26 inputs at 24-bit/48kHz in .wav format. Switching events are logged as DaVinci Resolve .drp project files.

Monitoring and Media

The multi-view monitor supports configurations from 4 to 16 windows, displaying program, preview, HDMI inputs, SuperSource, media players, streaming/recording status, and audio meters. The built-in media players support 2 channels (fill and key), with a pool capacity of 20 stills (PNG, TGA, BMP, GIF, JPEG, TIFF) and 200 frames of HD video. Media playback supports TGA sequences and audio in WAV, MP3, and AIFF formats.

Control and Processing

The switcher can be controlled via its built-in panel, optional hardware panels, or the included ATEM Software Control Panel (Mac and Windows). It is compatible with ATEM Micro Panel, ATEM 1/2/4 M/E Advanced Panels, ATEM Camera Control Panel, and Blackmagic Videohub panels. Audio processing is handled by a 58-channel mixer with EQ, dynamics, compressor, limiter, and expander. Camera control is available for most Blackmagic cameras, including adjustments to focus, iris, zoom, color corrector, ND filter, and tally.

Software and Compatibility

The switcher is supported on macOS 14.0 Sonoma, macOS 15.0 Sequoia or later, and Windows 10/11 (including ARM support). Updates and configuration can be performed via Ethernet or USB-C.

Power and Environmental

The ATEM Mini Extreme operates on a 12V external power supply, with a maximum power usage of 120W. It is rated for operating temperatures between 5°C and 40°C (41°F to 104°F), storage temperatures of -10°C to 60°C (14°F to 140°F), and relative humidity between 0% to 90% non-condensing.
