Connections

The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD offers a total of 40 video inputs and 24 video outputs, supporting SDI rates of 1.5G and 3G. For audio, it provides 2 balanced 1/4-inch jack inputs, a 32 stereo channel BNC MADI input, and a 5-pin XLR talkback connection. Audio outputs include 2 balanced 1/4-inch jacks, 2 x 32 stereo channel BNC MADI outputs, and a 5-pin XLR talkback. The switcher embeds 8 channels of audio on all SDI inputs and 16 channels on all SDI outputs. For synchronization, it includes Tri-Sync or Black Burst reference input and re-syncs on all 40 inputs with frame rate and format conversion.

Additional outputs such as SDI Aux, Preview, and Program are available on any of the 24 SDI outputs, while a USB-C webcam output supports 720p or 1080p at the program frame rate. The unit also features 4 multi-view outputs via 3G-SDI, RS-422 remote via RJ12, Ethernet for panel or network connection, RJ45 talkback for third-party systems, and USB-C for computer interface.

Standards

This switcher supports a wide range of HD video standards including 720p50, 720p59.94, 720p60, 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 1080i60, and progressive formats from 1080p23.98 up to 1080p60. It complies with SMPTE 292M, 296M, 424M, and 425M level A and B standards. Video sampling is 4:2:2 with 10-bit color precision in REC 709 color space. Automatic detection between 1.5G-SDI and 3G-SDI (level A or B) is also supported.

The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD is equipped with 16 upstream keyers, 4 downstream keyers, and 16 advanced chroma keyers. It features 2 SuperSource engines, full talkback support, mix-minus capability, 21 linear/luma keyers, 4 stinger transition keyers, and 4 DVE transition keyers. With a total of 28 layers, the switcher also provides 21 pattern generators and 2 color generators. Control can be managed via front fascia for emergency switching, software, or optional hardware panels. The system supports 64 routable windows, tally indication (red for program and green for preview), and labeled window sources.

Multi View Monitoring

The unit includes 4 multi-view outputs, each configurable for 16, 13, 10, 7, or 4 up views. Multi-views support monitoring of program, preview, inputs, media players, M/Es, DSKs, SuperSource, and clean feeds, with optional labels and audio meters. Multi-view output is HD, requiring a minimum display resolution of 1366 x 768.

Media Player

ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD includes 4 media players, each with fill and key channels. The media pool supports up to 60 still images and 4 video clips at resolutions up to 1080p60. Clip lengths support up to 1200 frames in 720 HD and 600 frames in 1080 HD. Supported still image formats include PNG, TGA, BMP, GIF, JPEG, and TIFF, while video is stored as TGA sequences and audio formats include WAV, MP3, and AIFF.

Display & Processing

The front panel features a built-in 5-inch HD LCD monitor for video preview, along with 42 LED buttons for setup and emergency switching. It includes 8 source buttons, 4 transition buttons, 6 talkback selection/mix buttons, a control knob, set button, and lock button. Processing delay is less than 10 lines, ensuring real-time performance.

Audio Mixer

The built-in audio mixer provides 156 channels with selectable On/Off/Audio-Follow-Video modes. It includes level and peak metering, master gain control, 6-band parametric EQ, and advanced dynamics such as expander, gate, compressor, and limiter.

Software & Configuration

The ATEM Software Control Panel is included free and compatible with macOS (11.11 Big Sur, 12 Monterey, 14 Sonoma, and 15 Sequoia or later) and Windows 10 or 11. Updates are managed via USB or Ethernet with the ATEM Setup Utility. Configuration is done through the ATEM Software Control Panel, except the chassis IP address, which is set via USB.

Power & Installation

The switcher includes dual internal 100–240V AC power supplies with redundant protection and an estimated usage of 147W. It fits a standard 2 rack unit size for professional installations.

Environmental Specifications

The device operates between 0° to 40° C (32° to 104° F) and can be stored between -20° to 60° C (-4° to 140° F). It supports relative humidity levels of 0% to 90% non-condensing.
