The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD is a powerful live production switcher designed for professional broadcasting environments. It features 40 video inputs and 24 video outputs, supporting SDI rates of 1.5G and 3G. Each of the 40 inputs includes video re-sync and frame rate as well as format converters, ensuring seamless integration of multiple sources. For reference input, the system supports Tri-Sync or Black Burst signals. The switcher also provides 4 x 3G-SDI multi-view outputs and a USB-C webcam output that supports up to 1080p at program frame rates.

On the audio side, it includes 2 balanced 1/4-inch jacks, a 32 stereo channel BNC MADI input, and 5-pin XLR Talkback. Outputs include 2 balanced 1/4-inch jacks, 2 x 32 stereo channel BNC MADI outputs, and an additional 5-pin XLR Talkback. SDI audio supports 8-channel embedded audio on inputs and 16-channel embedded audio on outputs.

The switcher complies with industry standards including SMPTE 292M, 296M, 424M, and 425M (Level A & B). It supports HD video standards up to 1080p60, with 10-bit 4:2:2 video sampling and REC 709 color space. The system automatically detects between 1.5G-SDI and 3G-SDI (Level A or B).

For creative control, the unit is equipped with 16 upstream keyers, 4 downstream keyers, and 16 advanced chroma keyers. It also supports 2 SuperSource processors, 21 linear/luma keyers, 4 stinger transitions, and 4 DVE transitions, providing a total of 28 compositing layers. Additionally, it offers 21 pattern generators and 2 color generators. Tally indicators are included with red for program and green for preview status.

Monitoring is handled via 4 configurable multi-views, each supporting up to 16 windows. Multi-view monitoring allows flexible display of Program, Preview, Inputs, Media Players, M/Es, DSKs, SuperSource, and Clean Feed with optional labels and audio meters. The minimum display resolution supported is 1366 x 768.

The integrated media players support 4 channels with fill and key for each player, up to 60 still images, and 4 clips of up to 1080p60. Formats supported include PNG, TGA, BMP, GIF, JPEG, and TIFF for stills, and TGA sequences for video. Audio files in WAV, MP3, and AIFF formats are also supported.

The front panel includes a 5-inch HD LCD monitor, 42 LED buttons, 8 source buttons, 4 transition buttons, talkback controls, a menu control knob, and a panel lock button for secure operation. Emergency switching is possible directly from the fascia.

Internally, the system boasts a 156-channel audio mixer, supporting on/off/AFV (audio follow video), master gain control, level/peak metering, and advanced audio processing with a 6-band parametric EQ, expander, gate, compressor, and limiter.

Power is provided by dual internal 100–240V AC supplies for redundancy, with an estimated consumption of 147W. The switcher is designed to fit into a 2 rack unit size for professional rack-mounted installations.

Environmental operating conditions support temperatures from 0° to 40° C and storage from -20° to 60° C, with up to 90% non-condensing humidity tolerance.
