The ATEM 2 M/E Constellation HD comes with 20 total video inputs and 12 total video outputs, supporting SDI rates of 1.5G and 3G. It offers 2 balanced 1/4-inch audio inputs along with 1x 5-pin XLR talkback input and 1x 5-pin XLR talkback output. For embedded audio, it supports 8 channels on all SDI inputs and 16 channels on all SDI outputs. The unit also includes a tri-sync or black burst reference input and features re-sync, frame rate, and format converters on all 20 inputs. Additionally, it provides a USB-C webcam output supporting 720p or 1080p at PGM frame rate, two multi-view outputs, and Ethernet connectivity for panel or network control.

In terms of standards, the switcher supports a wide range of HD video formats including 720p (50, 59.94, 60), 1080i (50, 59.94, 60), and 1080p (23.98 to 60). It complies with SMPTE 292M, 296M, 424M, and 425M level A/B. The video is sampled at 4:2:2, 10-bit precision, with a REC 709 color space. Auto switching is enabled between 1.5G-SDI and 3G-SDI (level A/B).

The system is equipped with 8 upstream keyers, 2 downstream keyers, and 8 advanced chroma keyers. It also includes 1 SuperSource, 11 linear/luma keyers, and 4 transition keyers (2 stinger, 2 DVE). The switcher supports up to 15 total layers, along with 11 pattern generators and 2 color generators. Control can be managed via the front fascia emergency controls, ATEM Software Control, or an optional hardware panel. Tally is supported with red indicators for program and green for preview.

For monitoring, the ATEM 2 M/E Constellation HD provides 2 multi-view outputs, each configurable to display 16, 13, 10, 7, or 4 sources. It supports program, preview, media players, keyers, SuperSource, clean feed, labels, and audio meters. Multi-view is output in HD resolution with a minimum display requirement of 1366 x 768.

Media management is supported with 2 media players offering fill and key channels. The media pool can hold 40 still images, and up to 2 clips in 1080p60 or 800 frames at 720p HD. Still formats include PNG, TGA, BMP, GIF, JPEG, and TIFF, while video is supported in TGA sequences and audio in WAV, MP3, and AIFF.

On the front panel, the switcher is equipped with a 2.2-inch LCD monitor, 22 LED setup buttons, 8 source buttons, 4 transition buttons, 6 talkback buttons, a control knob, and a front panel lock.

The built-in 48-channel audio mixer allows flexible control with on/off, audio-follow-video, master gain, and level/peak metering. It includes 6-band parametric EQ, dynamics processing (expander, gate, compressor, limiter), providing professional-grade sound control.

For software, the ATEM Software Control Panel is included and compatible with Mac OS 14.0 Sonoma, 15.0 Sequoia, or later, as well as Windows 10 and 11. Updates and setup are handled via USB or Ethernet.

Power is supplied through an internal 100–240V AC unit, with a power consumption of 52W. The device fits in a 1 Rack Unit size and is designed for professional studio environments.

The ATEM 2 M/E Constellation HD operates at 0° to 40° C, with storage temperatures from -20° to 60° C, and supports up to 90% non-condensing relative humidity.
